Mr World Finalist Emmanuel Ikubese hosted at Nigerian Embassy in London

 

Mr Nigeria 2014 and first runner up of Mr World, Emmanuel Ikubese was hosted today Thursday 19th June 2014 at the Nigerian Embassy in London for making the nation proud at the 2014 competition.

If you recall, Emmanuel came in second at the Mr World finale held on Sunday 15th June 2014 in the English Rivera.

High Commissioner Dr. Dalhatu Sarki Tafida, OFR, CFR, invited him and congratulated him for flying the Nigerian flag high.

Emmanuel who became famous for his role in “Shuga“, also invited his parents for the private occasion.

Adamawa Assembly begin impeachment proceedings against the state governor

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against the state governor, Murtala Nyako, and his deputy, Bala Ngilari.

The Assembly today Wednesday June 18th directed its clerk to serve the governor and his deputy an impeachment notice.

Nyako has been having problems with the Assembly members since leaving the PDP to join the APC.

Wanted terror kingpin among 486 arrested in Abia on Monday

The Nigerian military released a press statement this morning saying that a wanted terror kingpin was detected among the 486 suspected Boko Haram members arrested while traveling along the Enugu - Port Harcourt road on Sunday June 15th. Find the press statement below...

Update on the screening of 486 arrested travelers in Abia state: wanted terror kingpin nabbed

A terror kingpin in the list of wanted terrorists of security forces in Nigeria have been detected in the ongoing screening of the 486 suspects napped while travelling in over 33 Hiace Hummer buses at night along Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway last Sunday.  
So far other security agencies including the para-military have joined the screening exercise to ascertain the status of the remaining suspects.  Those identified as possible security risk or illegal immigrants are expected to be identified for further action.
Meanwhile, the identified terror kingpin has been taken into custody.  Further development will be communicated to you in due course.

FG drops N100b stolen funds charges against Mohammed Abacha

The Federal Government today Wednesday June 18th withdrew the corruption charges filed against Mohammed Abacha, son of former military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

 

Mohammed who played a major role during his late father's administration is believed to have helped the late dictator launder a lot of stolen funds. The FG had accused Mohammed Abacha of receiving stolen property worth N100.38 billion, many of it kept in foreign countries.

 

The Federal government recently asked the US govt to return another $500 million recently frozen by the U.S. as part of funds stolen by the late dictator.

Popular Ibadan businessman Aare Alao Arisekola passes on at 69

Ibadan based businessman and the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Abdulazeez Arisekola Alao has died. He died yesterday June 17th at a hospital in Switzerland where he was undergoing treatment for Colon cancer.

Family sources say his body will be flown to Nigeria tomorrow and buried according to Muslim rites. He is survived by several wives and children. May his soul rest in peace..amen.

‘Boko Haram plans to bomb Abuja with petrol tankers’ - SSS

The SSS today Wednesday June 18 said the Boko Haram sect is planning to bomb Abuja with petrol tankers within the next few days. The Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mike Omeri, made this known at a briefing in Abuja alongside the Deputy Director of the DSS, Marilyn Ogar

"The Nigerian Security services had received intelligence report to the effect that insurgents intends seizing petrol tankers and plant improvised devices in the tankers and drive them to crowded places in Abuja.

“Against this backdrop, we hereby call on the Petrol Tankers Association to be on the red alert and advise their members to report any attempt or seizure of their vehicles to security agencies.

“In this wise, Nigerians are also advised to report any broken down tanker in any part of the territory to security agencies. Similarly, we are using this opportunity to appeal to the public to be on the alert particularly when they see any tanker driving dangerously." He said

The 15-year old daughter of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, Malia has gotten her first job.

And it’s in Hollywood. Malia has been working as a production assistant on the set of Halle Berry‘s TV series “Extant“, The New York Daily News reports.

The upcoming series is produced by Steven Spielberg and will air on CBS.

How Cultists hacked driver,dumped body on Lagos highway

Residents of the Oworonshoki area of Lagos State were treated to a gory sight on Saturday on the Olopo Meji, Oworonshoki Expressway, as a battered body was left on the highway.The body, which had been crushed many times by vehicles, was later identified as that of a 35-year-old man, Yemi, aka Topia, a resident of the area.

According to Punch,a resident, Michael Oladipupo, said the victim was the son of a landlord on Mabawonku Street.Oladipupo said Yemi was not killed by a hit-and-run vehicle as the situation suggested, but his body was dumped on the highway to serve as an alibi for his killers.
He said.....

“I was called this morning (Saturday) around 9am and told that there was a corpse on the road. I came here and saw his body on the expressway. But as we traced its movement, we discovered that he was dragged to the expressway from a spot close to the Oworonshoki Bridge.After killing him, they dumped him on the road so that the scene would look like an accident. Vehicles and heavy-duty trucks passing by have torn his body into pieces so that people will not be able to identify him.”

15 dead as Boko Haram attacks market in Borno state

At least 15 people died today June 15th after suspected men of the Boko Haram sect launched an attack on traders at a local market in Daku village of Askira Uba LGA of Borno state around 11am.

Reports say the men numbering over 20 and armed with AK-47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs stormed the market square on motorcycles and a Hilux Toyota vehicle, and opened fire at people in the market. Several shops, houses, vehicles and motorcycles were reportedly razed during the attack. After the attack, sources say the men then took foodstuffs and money from the traders.
