A
tribal woman in Madhya Pradesh was gangraped by 10 persons, including her
husband, paraded naked and forced to drink urine in front of her minor son
following a land dispute. After
the woman lodged a complaint in which she alleged that the attack was carried
out at the behest of her husband, all the accused were nabbed, police said.
The
incident took place three days ago at Bhiali Kheda village under Piplod police
station and the victim reported the matter on June 13, 2014 to police after her
family members brought her to Khandwa district hospital, police said.
Acting
on the complaint, police on Saturday [June 14] arrested all the 10, including
the victim’s husband, relatives and other villagers, Sunita Rawat, Deputy
Superintendent of Police, Women’s Cell, Khandwa told reporters in Khandwa on
Saturday.
In
her complaint, the woman alleged that she was gang raped by 10 persons,
including her husband and relatives, the DSP said. Before raping her, the men
manhandled the victim, paraded her naked and when she asked for water, they
forced her to drink urine in front of her minor son, Ms. Rawat said quoting
from the woman’s complaint.
Meanwhile,
the woman’s husband claimed before the media that she was levelling baseless
allegations against him and other villagers over a land dispute.
Police
have registered a case against the accused and are further probing the
incident.
The
victim was undergoing treatment at the district hospital where women constables
and Piplod police station in-charge were deployed for her security, Ms. Rawat
added.
There
has been nationwide outrage on the string of incidents of sexual assault on
women. The issue has come into fresh focus following the gangrape and murder of
two teenage cousins, whose bodies were found hanging from a tree in Badaun
district of Uttar Pradesh.
