The Department of State Security Service (SSS), yesterday said it has
arrested one Kelvin, the person alleged to have been behind the recent
abduction of famous lawyer, Mike Ozekhome.
Kelvin, a suspected
notorious armed robber, was arrested on September 25 by a combined team
of the Nigerian Army and the operatives of the DSS.
The suspect,
who is said to be on the most wanted list of the security agencies for
sometime now, is accused by the DSS as the person who masterminded the
kidnap of Mike Ozekhome on August 24, along the Auchi-Benin Road and a
top female official of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). This
came in statement issued by the SSS.
He was also alleged to have
masterminded the kidnap of a judge of the Edo State Judiciary and
several members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), as well as
Dr. Chudi Nwike, a former Deputy Governor of Anambra State who was
killed by Kelvin while in captivity.
The statement signed by
the Deputy Director of the agency, Marilyn Ogar, said the suspect had
masterminded several attacks against security personnel, carried out
several armed robberies and kidnap operations in Delta, Edo, Rivers and
Anambra states
According to the statement, the suspect maintained
operational bases and detention camps in Warri and Kokori Community in
Delta State, Ugbokolo Community in Benue State, Benin city in Edo State,
and Aba in Abia State respectively.
Ogar further stated that
Kelvin had, on September 18, 2013, issued a 60-day ultimatum to the
Federal Government from his base in Kokori, Delta State, and threatened
to wreak havoc on innocent Nigerian citizens.
Also, in a
statement signed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police
(Administration) in Delta State, Onyire Kaneneolisa, it was disclosed
that Kelvin was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, September 25,
2013 at a hotel in Benin city, Edo State capital by a combined team of
the military and the SSS operatives.
